Itinerary
Day 1: Arrival and Getting Your Bearings in Baixa and Chiado
Kick off your trip by settling in, maybe grab a coffee at a local spot near Praça do Comércio, that big square by the river. Stroll around Baixa's grid streets, rebuilt after some old earthquake, and check out the grand arches. Head up to Chiado for a bit of shopping or just people-watching, its got bookstores and cafes everywhere. In the afternoon, hop on the famous Tram 28, it winds through the city like a rollercoaster, passing by cathedrals and viewpoints. End with dinner in a tasca, trying grilled sardines or something fresh from the sea. Don't forget to catch the sunset from Miradouro de Santa Luzia, its killer.
Day 2: Dive into Alfama's Charm
Alfama's the oldest part, full of fado music echoing from bars and laundry flapping in the breeze. Start early to beat crowds at São Jorge Castle, climb the walls for panoramic city views, you can see the Tagus River sparkling below. Wander down the narrow streets, popping into little shops for souvenirs like tiles or cork stuff. Lunch on some petiscos, sharing plates of cheese and olives. Afternoon, visit the cathedral, Sé de Lisboa, its ancient and got Roman bits underneath. If energy's high, trek to the National Pantheon nearby. Evening, find a fado house for live music, but book ahead if you can.
Whoops, almost forgot, take the funicular up if your legs are tired, saves time.
Day 3: Bairro Alto and Night Vibes, Plus a Side of Belém
Morning in Bairro Alto, its quieter then but streets are colorful with street art and boutiques. Climb to Miradouro de São Pedro de Alcântara for more epic views over rooftops. Lunch in a trendy spot, maybe fusion food mixing local with international. Then, tram or bus out to Belém, about 20 minutes west. Hit the Jerónimos Monastery, all intricate stonework, and the tower by the water. Don't miss pastéis de nata, those custard tarts are legendary here. Back to Bairro Alto for nightlife, bars spill onto streets, grab a ginjinha shot.
This day's a mix, urban buzz and historic gems.
Day 4: Hilltop Hunts and LX Factory Cool
Focus on viewpoints today, start with Miradouro da Senhora do Monte, highest point, grab pics of the whole city sprawled out. Then down to Graça neighborhood for graffiti and local vibes. Afternoon, head to LX Factory, old industrial area turned hip with galleries, bookstores, and eateries in warehouses. Its got a creative edge, perfect for chilling. Maybe catch a street performance or browse markets. Dinner here or back in center, whatever floats your boat.
Keep an eye on weather, rain can make hills slippery!
Day 5: Sintra Day Trip or Leisure Wrap-Up
If you're up for it, train to Sintra, about 40 minutes away, for fairy-tale palaces like Pena, colorful and on a hilltop. Hike around or just admire gardens. Back in Lisbon by afternoon for any missed spots, like Time Out Market for a food hall feast, variety from seafood to sweets. Or relax by the river, watching boats. Wrap with a tram ride at dusk, lights coming on make it magical.
If Sintra's too much, just roam more neighborhoods, no pressure.
